The Final Thread: Collaboration and Growth through “Courage”

Skifahrer an der Wastlhöhe

The last thread is Courage: A word that is used quite often when referring to acts of bravery. We can search the internet or a dictionary for a formal definition of the meaning. However, to truly understand the value of courage it is lived through our individual experiences’. Everyday acts of uncertainty into unfamiliar territory can at times be painful, frightening, challenging as well as, rewarding: for example relocating across the country or across the world; the uncertainty, of being an auxiliary or full-time civil service professional; the uncertainty, of another surgery/treatment for a better tomorrow; the uncertainty, of losing a partner or major client hence continuing to move the business or life forward.

From generation to generation decisions based on this type of experience is something that each generation: Senior, Baby Boomer, Gen X, and Millennial, to some degree has proven valuable and necessary to grow and differentiate them from the previous. However, with the marvel of technology we are now presented with more options and more information than ever before. As a result the playing field for new ideas and new methods of doing business has increased our ability for discovering uncontested markets. Therefore, building confidence and raising expectations regarding the possibilities of collaboration and growth.

In order to make it work for your brand, especially when you are not looking to duplicate what everyone else is doing (within your industry). And do what has never been done before while, growing your business requires courageous leadership and courageous teams. There are numerous displays of courageous leadership team’s with employees spanning across generations. Making courageous decisions’ everyday, Starbucks, Google and General Electric (GE) are companies that continually excel at innovation, customer engagement and growth.

Generally speaking, Starbucks began selling coffee beans locally in Seattle. Google, started as a search engine on the internet and General Electric (GE) founded by Thomas Edison as Edison Light Company. Is best known for its innovative transformation in lighting, transportation and industrial products. At each stage of innovation and growth these companies are introducing something new. Why? Because consumers trust them, customer experience has always been excellent, brand message consistent and the product or service reliable.

For the companies mentioned it started with small acts of leadership courage. But the point is instead of duplicating industry products or services learn from them and apply it locally to grow your business.  Each generation embodies both imagination and courage and are actively engaged in imaging a better future.
